Kate Brian


Kate Brian is UK Deputy Chair of the MCED Consortium’s Health Equity work group. She is Professor of Health Psychology at Cardiff University’s School of Medicine. Her research focuses on cancer early detection behaviour and developing complex interventions to optimise cancer symptom presentation and screening engagement, with a particular emphasis on reducing cancer inequalities.

She leads a programme of cancer behavioural research for the Welsh Government-funded Wales Cancer Research Centre and Primary and Emergency Care Research Centre. She is Chief Investigator on the COVID-19 Cancer Attitudes and Behaviours funded by the Economic and Social Research Council/UK Research and Innovation (cabs-study.yolasite.com) and ABACus3 trial funded by Yorkshire Cancer Research (ABACus - Centre for Trials Research - Cardiff University). She is co-Chief Investigator on the TIC TOC study funded by Cancer Research Wales (TIC-TOC - Centre for Trials Research - Cardiff University).

Kate is a member of Cancer Research UK’s Early Detection and Diagnosis Scientific Advisory Committee and is Associate Director of Population Health for the College of Biomedical and Life Sciences at Cardiff University.
